Black mascara is so… 2021. It's time to find space in your beauty bag for funky lash colours
Just like nail art and tooth gems, coloured mascaras are one of those beauty trends that, if someone had told us five years ago that we would see a comeback in 2022, the likely reaction would be an eye roll followed by an excited giggle. From the same specific era that blessed us with low-waisted skirts and tinted sunglasses, the product was an absolute hit in the ‘90s and early ‘00s, before dropping off the beauty radar.
But, Rabens Saloner's spring/summer 2023 show at Copenhagen Fashion Week was all the inspiration that we needed to give this old friend a chance. After all, besides the efficiency of elevating your look with just a mascara stroke, the touch of colour is a good option for those who aren’t keen to rock extravagant looks but are willing to spice up the day-to-day. Also, for makeup lovers, there's something almost magical about the possibility of extended a monochromatic palette beyond blush and lipstick to include lashes. Or, for even more interest, to opt for clashing shades.
Leading the show's beauty, makeup artists Trine Skjøth and Jan Stuhr created a very subtle, luminous and flawless base to match the pigment touch. On the eyes, different shades of peach, yellow and green coloured the lashes, which, for those looking from afar, seemed to almost merge with a cloud of colour on the cheeks. If you were also inspired by the look, here are five versions of the product that deserve your attention.
