Midsummer, a day full of traditional food, folklore, and family, is one of the most festive times in Sweden. However, dressing accordingly can be a challenge that sparks the questions: how can I master the balance of chic and comfortable to dance around the Midsummer pole and win the family tournament?

Since the weather is unreliable at best, Vogue Scandinavia’s fashion team has settled that preparing one’s outfit is key. Some of them fancy feeling casually chic while others are opting for less conventional options. Whatever you choose to sport this holiday, just make sure you plan ahead!

Below, is a glimpse of what the editors are going to wear on Midsummer this year.

Clare McInerney, Digital Editor

"Easy linens, tiers of lace and a sturdy boot for meadow romping is the tried-and-true Midsummer formula. A splash of aquavit and you're good to go."

Robert Rydberg, Fashion Director

For Midsummer this year, instead of bringing out my traditional folk costume, I am going for a cosy-luxe outfit. I try to invest in pieces, like this Armani shirt, that feel like me and that I know I’ll put on for future occasions too. In my opinion, one shouldn’t be held back by short-lived trends. Put on a timeless attire that makes you feel comfortable and confident. That is when you’ll have the most fun!

Josefin Forsberg, Beauty and Fashion News Editor

“While my everyday look leans towards androgynous tailoring in a monochromatic colour scheme, come Midsummer I bloom beyond crisp cotton shirts and pinstripes to sport 'seven flowers from seven fields'. This ByMalina dress embodies the holiday with its floral print and feminine silhouette. Worn with practical flats (as there is bound to be plenty of walking and dancing on the day) I will also throw a cable knit sweater over my shoulders – you never know when the temperature may drop!"

“Whenever Midsummer is approaching I fall in love with patterns all over again – endless florals and colours. However, this year I will invest in a dress that works for all occasions over the summer. This green crêpe de chine maxi dress from Reformation is the perfect gown. Whilst it might not be the smartest to have a long dress (read: one will be dancing all day long), this can easily be adjusted with a hair clip. For shoes, I am always opting for flats. This year I am looking to Aeyde's.”

Roeland Vanheesbeke, Digital Designer

"This will officially be my first Midsummer party in Sweden, and I have no idea what to expect. I heard something about running around poles, jumping like frogs, and lots of schnapps. So I need to be lightly and comfortably dressed, while still feeling chic. This outfit is inspired by the French Riviera summer vibe – think Alain Delon in the '60s – starting with a shirt from L.E.J London and white trousers. For shoes, I will go with the Danish brand Vinny’s: timeless classics with a twist. Last but not least, I'll add a pair of sunglasses from Casantlantic."

"When I celebrate Midsummer, I want to be ready for all sorts of dances, games and events while still feeling put together. This holiday is about cherishing our how Swedish nature finally has blossomed, and, what better way to do that then dressing in a way that let’s one run across the lawn through a refreshing summer rain in a white dress blowing in the wind."

Olivia Ekelund, Junior Writer

"Once the light starts to shift and the city wakes up, I feel like every day is building up to Midsummer. Its without a doubt one of my favourite days of the year - filled with romanticism and love for tradition, where family and friends gather to celebrate the kick-off of summer and give into our childlike natures with games and treats.

I always go for something very romantic, a fluffy dress, often white and flowery to mirror the blossoms of the season. This year I’m wearing this drawstring piece by Wuhan Yang with a pair of casual shoes and a cap, like this green one from Loewe. To top it off, I like to carry very simple jewellery - some classic thin gold chains and stacked rings I’ve collected over the years. It’s a balanced look that lets me live my midsummer dreams but also allows me to run and play to my hearts desire."
