The Saks Potts pop-up shop smells of rich mahogany.
Fashioned after the closet of our wildest fantasies and located in the heart of Copenhagen, the beloved Danish brand’s first stand-alone retail space invites visitors to kick off their shoes and settle in. “Our dream was to make a space that would make you feel comfortable, cozy and at home,” founders Cathrine Saks and Barbara Potts tell me over email. “A dream closet where you could spend hours finding the perfect outfit for a night out or just to jump into your favourite knitwear set.”
Inspired by the prevailing aesthetic of classic Danish furniture – the clean lines, the natural materials – with just a dash of “Milanese villa vibe,” the space is a reflection of the latest Saks Potts collection, which introduced the concept of the perfect closet, made up of pieces to be treasured and worn for years to come. To access the space, visitors pass through beloved Copenhagen eatery Atelier September, mimicking the notion of walking through a kitchen and dining room to reach the Saks Potts walk-in closet.
The interiors, and the artworks that decorate it, have been custom created by Danish architect Rasmus Strøyberg and Denmark-born, Milan-based artist and architect Albert Agerkov. Many of the finer details, like the Tadelakt furniture and clay relief have been meticulously crafted by hand. “It’s a tactile encounter of refined materials, just like when wearing a piece of Saks Potts clothing,” say Saks and Potts.
Covetable trench coats, trousers and a standout orange jacket in the butteriest of leathers line the walls. Shirts are folded into pristine squares and tucked into drawers. This is the closet of a very detail-oriented, very fashionable woman.
No fantasy closet is complete without jewellery and shoes, and in this department, the Saks Potts closet does not disappoint. For the former, the girls tapped Los Angeles-based designer Sophie Buhai, whose modern, sculptural pieces are the perfect complement to the Saks Potts wardrobe. As for shoes, they culled the archives of the one and only Manolo Blahnik to handpick a selection of vintage gems that would blow Carrie Bradshaw’s brain.
