We've been rustling through his Instagram archive and though it feels almost impossible to curate this style icon's most memorable looks, we tried anyway

For almost two decades, Bryanboy (born Bryan Yambao) has been a fashion industry fixture. Staying impossibly relevant, pivoting from platform to platform, his career has seen him shift from blogger on the outskirts to an unrivalled influence with an analytical eye as discerning as any old-school fashion critic's. But through it all his personal style has remained a steadfast favourite with street style photographers and his vast wardrobe fills a whopping eight storage units near his Stockholm home.

While it's almost impossible to curate, this Vogue Scandinavia editor revels in rummaging through Bryan Boys sartorial archive, highlighting seven major fashion moments in recent years:

1

When he opted for nostalgia in Vogue Scandinavia

"I didn’t want to take the lazy route and just wear something random. I wanted to wear something that has meaning," Bryanboy captioned his instagram post, explaining the ins and outs of his Vogue Scandinavia Shoot. Opting for a bedazzled midnight blue gown by Alessandro Michele for Gucci, his look encapsulated a whole career in one look, channeling his forever notion of daring to be different. "When I saw that blue velvet dress, I thought, yep, that’s what I want to wear at my shoot. It’s wild to have an emotional connection to a piece of clothing. It will haunt you for life," he continued.

Explaining his long relationship with the Italian house, and its eccentric creative director, and the homophobia he faced when sporting a similar dress at the 2019 pre-fall show, he highlighted the true inclusivity that Michele brought to the brand. Championing gender fluid fashion, Michele has now moved on from Gucci (shaking the foundations of the fashion industry), lending this look even more meaning.

Fuzzy Saint Laurent boots and a Isabel Marant sweater worn on repeat

Even with a wardrobe as vast as Bryanboy's, favourite pieces tend to make frequent appearances, such as this particular look sported in Lapland back in 2019. The melange sweater with Isabel Marant's signature folksy pattern has been in the influencer's wardrobe since February, 2019 (when he was spotted attending the Off-White show sporting the piece) and is paired with a statement shoe – fuzzy boots come courtesy of Saint Laurent.

It was a combination we saw multiple times that same year. At one point it appeared at Hotel Bachmair Weissach, in Germany, while our favourite style icon spent time on the slopes soaking up winter sun in the Alps. This time, however, he paired his favourite sweater and yeti boots with winter white tights and anonymous black sunnies. A confirmed outfit repeater, we're in full support of Bryanboy saving our planet one sartorial step at a time.

3

His (always) impeccable travel wear

As air travel has become more common, the dress code for travel wear has become more relaxed. Gone are the days for three-piece suits, impeccably tailored dresses and click-clacking heels. Today, celebrity-led airport looks have left the concept of 'dress to impress' behind in lieu of comfortable sweats and sneakers. Well, for the most part...

Then there's Bryanboy, who manages to balance the two. Never missing an opportunity to dress up, he always elevates his travel with ensembles we would love to wear in our everyday. Case in point: this leopard print coat and two-toned boot combination. Accessorised with a personalised Dior book tote bag and black remora suitcases, of course.

4

When he made a political statement with fashion

One of the reasons we adore Bryanboy is because he isn't afraid to speak his mind. Be it calling out brands, fellow influencers, or politicians, he uses his platform to call out issues that are important to him. He is also an individual who realises that fashion holds a lot of sway.

Attending New York fashion week in 2017, he was snapped by street style photographers with fellow bloggers and influencers outside of the 3.1 Phillip Lim wearing t-shirts emblazoned with political statements, straight off the Prabal Gurung runway. It may have been a small step towards change, but baby steps and all that...

5

When he accidentally twinned with Yu Masui

For 2017's spring/summer season of Paris fashion week (before his move to Sweden and he opted for a new blonde 'do) this sartorial savant still favoured Scandinavian fashion. Sporting a quirky Dachshund print half-zip sweater from Acne Studios, the collar exaggerated and the pattern impossibly cute, we found the colour scheme to be – a muted pistachio green paired

Japanese journalist and fellow street style icon Yu Masui happened to opt for the very same sweater, leading Bryanboy to caption his Instagram post: "Lesson No. 6: Somebody wearing your same outfit? Wonderful! You made the right choice."

6

This matchy-matchy Miu Miu set

Before there were chopped off mini shirts and impossibly cropped cable knits, Miu Miu mastered the faux fur coat. In snazzy colours and cocooning cuts, the collection we can't seem to stop thinking about is autumn/winter 2017 season – impeccably styled by our favourite content creator that very same winter, of course.

Pictured against the crispy white background of a frozen Swedish landscape, Bryan sports one of the most iconic coats from the collection. Impossibly chic, the very same fuzzy coat was worn by the ineffable Kate Moss as she fronted Miu Miu's campaign that season, styled by Katie Grant and shot by Alasdair McLellan. We argue that the checkered outerwear and matching hat might have (dare we say it?) looked even better on the influencer than the British supermodel.

7

When he wore a black coat like a true Scandi

What makes someone Scandinavian beyond citizenship? Is it the aforementioned bleached-blonde hair or an affinity for layering? We would argue it is the keen sense for superb outerwear, a black coat in particular.

This double-breasted coat with a buckle-fastened back creating a cocooning shape is particularly great. Designed by Alaïa, Bryan pre-ordered the piece all the way back in March. "It arrived in July and it’s been sitting in my closet since. And boy I’m so excited to wear it!" he captioned the images. After all, good things come to those who wait...
