New Years may have come and gone, but there's no need to hang up your favourite frock

2022 is set to be the year of party wear. With the return of the roaring 1920s, with rising hemlines and high heels, we find ourselves rather dressing up than down. While the clubs have yet to be kept open and celebration are far and few between, we still find ourselves gravitating towards anything that sparkles.

For our December-January issue, we leave loungewear behind in lieu of our fanciest garments. With innovative styling, the most outrageous party outfit can be adapted to everyday.

Knitwear offer the perfect styling solution when dressing down a dressy gown. Keep the voluminous skirts under control, an explosion of tulle sticking out beneath a sweater vest. With the return of the early aughts, why not fully lean into layering. Throw on a pair of trousers to bring your dress from clubbing to casual.

Spacious silhouettes and ruched up ruffles, voluminous looks are on the agenda as we get dressed. Let billowing dresses and swelling skirts aid in your social distancing as we head into the office or out for drinks. Again, a knit is the perfect addition to an outfit.

Materials maketh the dress. Texture is key when donning dressier garments in your everyday life. A heavy knit pacifies the protrusive impression of rigid metallic taffeta. Sheer tulle livens up figure-hugging viscose. It's all about balance.

There are more dressy garments to dress down than dresses. Jackets, trousers, and even loungewear have been given an illustrious makeover to be made party appropriate. Delicate detailing like appliqué flowers on a tulle jacket are given an office makeover when layered over a crisp cotton shirt. A hoodie is elevated with abundant ruffles.

Contrasting silhouettes is fundamental in our arsenal of styling tools. A long sleeved, high neck sweater with balloon sleeves perfectly balances a skin-tight mini-mini skirt. On the other hand, rules were made to be broken. Ruffles upon ruffles make for an impactful outfit no matter the occasion.

This year, think outside of the box when it comes to finishes. No need to stick with cotton and wool when curating your wardrobe. Alternatives materials are the perfect way to liven up your look. A woven explosion or far-flung faux feathers are guaranteed to turn heads. The bra top is making a strong return, so why not opt for a bedazzled one?

Another material to keep an eye on is high-shine PVC. 100% recyclable, the material shot into sartorial fame during the space-age, when designers thought it would be the fabric of the future. Today, vinyl is widely known for its sex-appeal. Lessen the lewd connotations with romantic cuts and billowing sleeves instead of skintight silhouettes.
