Sophia Roe gives us the lowdown on her runway-inspired look for Dior Haute Couture

Sophia Roe’s look for yesterday’s Dior Haute Couture show was, well, very Sophia Roe. For starters, the Dior frock was black and white (“My two favourite colours,” she says, with a giggle). The empire-waisted, ankle-skimming black dress with white lace details – plucked from the house’s Mexico-inspired Resort 2024 collection – is just the sort of feminine silhouette we’re accustomed to seeing on the Danish stylist-slash-influencer’s petite frame. Then there was the hair, styled in, as she calls it, a “classic Sophia Roe slicked back bun”. The makeup, however, was specific to the occasion. Roe’s smudgy black-lined eyes and luminous skin was modelled on the very same look created by Dior Makeup creative director Peter Philips for the Haute Couture runway.

“I went backstage afterwards and saw the looks for the show,” says Roe. “And we actually recreated the show look according to my face and my features.” Naturally, makeup artist Hicham Ababsa used the very same Dior Beauty products favoured by Philips. As is often the case with Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s runway shows – Couture included – the makeup looks served as a subtle complement, allowing the clothes themselves to take centre stage.

When it came to the finishing touches of Roe’s look, the devil was in the details, namely the extraordinary Dior fine jewellery ear cuff, mirrored in the silver hardware detailing on her heels. “Since it’s couture, we paired it with fine jewellery – that spectacular ear piece on one of my ears,” says Roe. “It’s really something that elevates the look from ready-to-wear to Couture-ready.” She describes the overall aesthetic as “romantic but always with an edge”.

As for Roe’s impression of the collection? “It was very Maria Grazia’s Dior,” she says. “When it comes to Couture, it’s always the new take on Dior classics. You can tell there’s been so much work put into the materials and this really strong shape. It’s a little bit more sculptural this time.” The meticulous embroidery on the runway, she tells me, was complemented by the large scale installation by artist Isabella Ducrot – both revelling in the beauty of feeling the work of an artist’s hand. Unfortunately, Roe did not catch a glimpse of Rihanna, who made a surprise appearance at the show. She did, however, spot Glenn Close, who is set to play legendary Bazaar editor-in-chief Carmel Snow, who dubbed Christian Dior’s first collection ‘The New Look’. Speaking of editors-in-chief, Roe also said a quick ‘hello’ to our own editor-in-chief, Martina Bonnier.

As for which beauty product from today’s look that Roe will swipe for future use? “Forever skin correct,” she says, without missing a beat. “It’s kind of a magic wand. It erases all signs of being overworked and not sleeping.” Roe got her beauty sleep yesterday, however. Following our chat, she planned to take a “disco nap” before heading out to meet some friends for dinner.
