“Seeing my husband standing at the end of the aisle in our favourite place, smiling and crying at the same time, was a magical moment and memory I will remember forever:” Norwegian content creator, Rikke Krefting, on her island wedding to OM
Lockdown London wasn’t going to stifle OM’s proposal to his content creator sweetheart, Rikke Krefting, at their London home in 2021. The London-based Norwegian couple, who dated for eight years after being set up by their best friends, says they had an indescribable, magical chemistry. “Since our first date, it was kind of us forever,” says Krefting.
On a Saturday morning in spring, OM suggested breakfast in their communal garden and chatted about how much the Norwegian couple loved their life in London, even in lockdown. “Suddenly, he said, “You know I want to spend the rest of my life with you, right?” and slid down on one knee and said, “will you marry me?” in Norwegian. I was so shocked and almost couldn’t get a “yes” out as I burst into tears,” says Krefting.

But the day, or rather weekend, was just getting started. The couple returned to their flat where Krefting found a beautiful dress waiting for her; OM had booked a staycation at one of London’s handful of hotels which remained open during lockdown. “We packed our bags and drove over to the hotel and had a romantic dinner outside with views over Hyde Park,” she says. “This weekend was one of the most magical and special of my life, and I still get so emotional and feel so lucky just thinking about it.”
Back down off cloud nine, the couple promptly started their wedding planning – they didn’t want a long engagement and were aiming to have their Capri wedding ceremony less than five months after Krefting said yes.
“We have been going to Capri every year since we got together, so it kind of became our place,” says Krefting. “Since the first time we went there together we really loved the casual chic vibe there, and the feeling of being on an island was very magical.”
The couple were always fascinated with a “small rock castle” on the Faraglioni side of the island, and after a few phone calls, the wedding venue was locked in place.
The three-day celebration began with a rehearsal dinner, the dress code ‘Capri Style.’ The bride, who “isn’t too into colours” wore a dress she describes as ‘Capri in the 60s.’ “It was bought just a few days before we left for our wedding, and it was just what I had in mind: a discreet colour with the chicest tailoring.”
Krefting’s wedding gown was just what she always envisioned: “super minimalistic in luxurious silk.”
“I bought my Danielle Frankel wedding dress without trying it from New York, due to Covid travel restrictions, and I could not be happier with it,” she says. “It’s very minimalistic and not too many details, so it was not too scary to buy it without trying it on first. I loved my dress from the second I tried it on, and I almost regret changing into more of a party dress for the dance floor. I wanted to just stay in it forever!” The Nadine Merabi dress was made for the dancefloor: playful, sparkly, and of course, easy to move in, with a fun veil at the hips.
The setting for the ceremony and reception was like a page out of an Italian romance novel. “The reception was in a very old Italian brick house, on the top of the rocks, with a view over the Faraglioni rocks,” says Krefting.
“We wanted to let the place speak for itself and not decorate it too much. We had a lot of candlelit candles and white and green flowers on various places around the house, and at the ceremony area I wanted to keep it minimalistic and elegant, so the Faraglioni rocks was part of the decoration. The orchid has always had a special place in my heart, so I decided to have this flower as the main focus; my bridal bouquet was only orchids, which I really loved and thought it was different from what I had seen before.”

Krefting’s father walked her down the aisle, and she says it was a magical moment. “I will never forget my father saying to me while we walked, “remember and cherish this moment forever, Rikke, you will never experience this again.” We smiled and it was such a special moment between my father and I. Seeing my husband standing at the end of the aisle in our favourite place, smiling and crying at the same time, was a magical moment and memory I will remember forever,” she says.
The couple’s playlist was a mix of English and Norwegian songs; their first dance Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe by Barry White, was “a song that has a special place in our hearts, which we often dance to together at home,” says Krefting.
“During the wedding dinner my parents surprised us with an Italian opera singer who performed various beautiful songs, one of them was my grandfather’s favourite song, which was very emotional.”
The next day, the couple hosted a lunch where Krefting wore an elegant Khaite dress. “I had it in mind since the day we got engaged; I really adore the tailoring, and how flattering it is on the body, while at the same time super comfortable and fun to dance in, which was important of course.”
Reflecting on their lockdown wedding, Krefting says she wouldn’t change a thing.
“There was something magical with such a small wedding, only 28 guests, on our favourite island with our closest circle. All of us together for three-days created a togetherness,” she says.
“For us it was unique to have all these people on Capri, a place we really love, and to show them all the beautiful aspects of the place throughout a weekend together.”
