This season we're replacing the iconic little black dress with a fiery red iteration

In 1926, Vogue published a fashion sketch of a simple black dress in crêpe de Chine from Chanel with long narrow sleeves and accessorised with pearls – an image that has since become ubiquitous in the world of fashion with the ultimate party staple. The accompanying text to the drawing dubbed it ‘Chanel’s Ford’ and ’a sort of uniform for all women of taste’, that is simple and accessible to everyone.
Today, however, after almost a century-long reign of the little black dress – or LBD – in our occasion wear wardrobes, we’re itching to experiment. This season, we're craving colour, preferably fiery in nature.
In our October-November issue, multiple editorials featured red dresses in a variety of shades and materials. In our editorial 'The Mirror Mage', a fabulous Bora Aksu lace and tulle dress with a high neck and wide silhouette played against the mystical tone of the piece. Moving on, Swedish model Malaika was seemingly plucked from the 1980s in a glossy Isabel Marant dress in our editorial 'Good Vibrations', and finally, Oscar-buzzed Renate Reinsve starred in 'Simply the Best', wearing a wonderfully sculptural Andrea Brocca gown. Evidently, we're hooked on the red hot colour way.
