With their first digital collection, Rave Review introduces an array of unique upcycled underwear, designed to uplift women in a space where they are seen less
Joining major maisons such as Cartier, Prada, Gucci and Louis Vuitton, Stockholm-based high-end upcycling fashion house Rave Review have expanded their sartorial universe into the world of digital fashion, releasing the label’s first collection taking place in the fascinating domain of NFTs. Named ‘Cryptopanties’, the collection consists of nine carefully crafted pairs of digital underwear.
While the pieces may not be tangible, giving thrifted or deadstock fabrics a new life as vibrant, one-of-a-kind pieces with a youthful yet nostalgic aesthetic is at the heart of Rave Review’s digital designs as well. Releasing the first pair of the cryptopanties named ‘Frida’ (for Frida Kahlo), the creative directors Josephine Bergqvist and Livia Schück explain that the collection draws inspiration from female creatives the designers themselves admire.

Choosing such a specific piece of clothing, Berqvist and Schück say that they “wanted to work with panties because it is a feminine garment that doesn’t get the attention it deserves. We found the idea of an upcycled and repaired panties is super fun, to make it digital is even more fun and punky.” A digitally upcycled NFT, the Frida panties are crafted from second hand lace, faux fur and terry towels from Rave Review studio, staying true to the creative craftsmanship the brand is known for.
The Cryptopanties collection is not only Rave Review’s first venture into digital fashion, but also a chance to claim a place in a male-dominated scene that is the crypto world. Tied to the femininity that the cryptopanties represent, a digital collection created by a female-led brand contributes to an increasing female presence in the crypto sphere. Supported by digital fashion collector RedDAO, the release also marks the beginning of their attempts to advocate diversity in the metaverse.
Going digital is aligned with Rave Review’s sustainability values too, and the crypto scene could offer an alternative avenue for a more environmentally friendly way of conducting business. “I believe traditional brands can benefit a lot from the digital fashion movement. Digital fashion offers new and sustainable ways of extending the brand and diversifying its customer base, while also overcoming the physical limitations and carbon footprint of the traditional fashion industry,” says Katia Kovalenko, RedDAO member and partner at P2P Capital.
Playing perfectly into the vision for the collection, the sales are launching on the International Women’s Day, occurring on the 8th of March 2022. Berqvist and Schück also reveal that a lottery for all cryptopanty holders will be arranged, involving an opportunity to win the physical prototypes of the underwear.
