Blue blood be damed, a queen can crown herself. In her carefully constructed finery, she is positively poised and regal, complete with innovative pairings to reign her world. In this latest Vogue Scandinavia fashion shoot we challenge the notion that we all can't be royals even if we are in tracksuit bottoms...
To abandon any ease we've become accustomed to for more ritzy ensembles may not be the most intuitive of actions. During the pandemic, the vast majority has relied on threadbare PJ bottoms, athleisure and loungewear in any and all variations. Today, as we once again emerge from our hibernations, we squeeze ourselves into tailored trousers, figure-hugging dresses and suffocating suits – with high heels we've grown unfamiliar with. All in place of our at-home comforts.
But there's no need to purge our wardrobes from drawstring waists, oversized silhouettes, and homely hoodies. Instead, we find ourselves with innovative pairings – peculiar to some but ineffably joyous ensembles that don't sacrifice sartorial comforts.
Below, let Vogue Scandinavia guide you on how to make your couch appropriate clothing occasion worthy.
Don't sweat it if you want to keep wearing your sweatpants. However, do consider switching out the full set for something more sparkly. Metallics were made for grey melange, as envisioned here pairing a sequin embroidered wool top from Gucci with grey jogger and a pair of bedazzled kitten heels.
Seize the opportunity to chinch in the waist, and as we've concluded so far: two belts are better than one. The hoodie is brought to new heights, incorporated by Alaïa in a tuxedo style mini dress with a flouncy hemline. And for those of us who enjoy the lounging around the living room in soft lined lingerie, the bra top is making a seismic impact on the sartorial agenda this season.
An oversized wool jacket is more reminiscent of a structured cardigan – a staple among the Vogue staffer's at-home attire. Paired with micro-mini skirt and an elegant kitten heel to elongate the leg, we're brought from the couch to cocktail hour. Add a punchy accessory – like the pea green belt from Prada – for extra pizzazz.
The generic and all-too familiar "a nice top an a pair of trousers" takes on new meaning when we're going out-out in 2022. Our very best beaded top makes a surprisingly good match for our slouchy sweatpants – cinched at the ankle with a barbie pink ballerina flat, of course.
We've all seen the cycle short and suit jacket combo of yore. Now, we set out to reinvigorate the trend with figure hugging body-ody-ody suits and extra large blazers – preferably bedazzled. Again, the waist is revealed with layered belts that adds some interest to an otherwise considered 'basic' clothing combo.
Show some leg with a high slit, but keep the key comforts and layer up the look with knitted shorts. Occasion wear is occasionally made even better when dressed down. A gown made for gala nights, with a corseted bust and delicate manipulated pleats, is made nearly nonchalant with a wide belt and a blazer slung of the shoulder.
Don't be shy of showing some skin. When dressing down your very best bracelet bralette or chain top, a drawstring wait is very much an appropriate choice. Or if weary of a barely-there ensemble, we suggest opting for a bra in an interesting finish to peak out atop an off-the-shoulder silhouette. Ad if we got to pick, with faux feathers to bring the look together – naturally,
