This might just be the royal endorsement you need to go for the chop

New year, new hair — or at least that’s what HRH Princess Sofia of Sweden graced us with last night when attending with HRH Prince Carl Philip to the “Celebrate Democracy 100 Years” concert and performance

Previously known for her long, middle parted, layered curtain bangs, Princess Sofia switched things up and opted for a bolder, more defined look. While keeping her overall length, the new hair-do focuses on perfectly cut, wispy bangs that sit right above her eyeline, giving her a defined look and completely changing the aesthetic she previously sported. A whole new take on the new year, new me concept.

The princess, who dazed everyone in sight with her new hair do, paired the style with a Dorothee Schumacher dress, Bottega Veneta bag, Manolo Blahnik pumps and Raven and LWL jewellery is the latest style icon in joining the bang resurgence. While her new hair cut is giving us strong 2007 Kate Moss vibes, we can only use it to further solidify the moment bangs are having within hair trends — which practically makes them the first big beauty trend contender of 2022.

While curtain bangs had their time to shine throughout last year, this new chapter we’ve seen celebrities, fashion insiders, actors and style references venturing into other alternative fonts of the traditional hair-cut. Just last week, HBO’s Euphoria actress Hunter Schafer stepped onto the second season premier’s red carpet rocking a perfectly styled set of micro bangs that flawlessly accentuated her features and aesthetic.

On the other hand, everyone’s favourite American in Paris, Lily Collins has been seen featuring her own take on bottle-neck bangs — dubbed the dantier younger sisters of the traditional curtain bangs, an effortless style that brings movement, dynamism and a delicate care-free-ness into any given aesthetic.

That being said, and completely understanding the commitment behind or associated with getting bangs, this might just be the season to go out and get them for ourselves— you know, switch things up, for once go for a change and make that chop we’ve all been hesitant to make. The only tip we bear to keep in mind before doing so is to know and understand the natural texture of your hair, as it will define how the bangs fall onto the face and the framing they give it — other than that, you might as well book the salon appointment right away, after all, all the style icons are doing it.
