He's the model prince who is racking up runways, campaigns and covers - and he's only been in the industry since 2018. Here we chart the budding career of the rising royal
It’s not often the world gets to know about a young, handsome and eligible prince via TikTok - but these are no ordinary times.
When Prince Nikolai of Denmark, Vogue Scandinavia’s February-March cover star, went viral on the streaming platform a couple of years ago, he found himself a whole new legion of fans that catapulted him into the limelight.
Introduced to the world as the eldest son of Prince Joachim and his first wife, Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg. He is the oldest grandchild of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and her late husband, Prince Henrik.
His childhood was pictured as a happy one, celebrated with a glamorous get together on the royal yacht Dannebrog when he reached 18 years old. The Prince wore a dapper tuxedo and was flanked by his siblings as he made his way aboard the impressive boat.

Known for his boyish good looks and model height, it was no surprise Prince Nikolai was drawn to the world of fashion.
Prince Nikolai is every inch the modern royal when it comes to off-duty style. Dressed in a slick gilet and baseball cap, he cuts a demure figure whilst strolling through the streets of Denmark with girlfriend Benedikte Thoustrup.
After signing with agency Scoop Models in early 2018, the prince made his runway debut for Burberry during London Fashion Week the same year, where he walked alongside supermodel Cara Delevingne. Delighting critics with his natural style and graceful walk, he was soon booked across major shows throughout the season.
Fast forward to today, where the prince has become a firm favourite of the fashion pack racking up runway appearances, campaigns and covers. Here we take a look at his fashion career highlights so far…

Hitting the runway for the first time at the Burberry autumn/winter 2018 show at London Fashion Week. “I was super nervous,” he told Vogue Scandinavia, though royal life had prepared him somewhat for the runway. “I’m used to the press and the cameras... to being a public figure all my life.”

In a move that Prince Nikolai says launched his career. He returned to the catwalk in Kim Jones’s debut show for Dior in spring 2019. “The Prince of Denmark opened my first Dior Men’s show,” Kim Jones, the brand’s artistic director, told Vogue Scandinvia. “It was such a dream to have him by my side.” He was then chosen to lead the Dior menswear campaign, cementing the prince as a muse for the iconic brand. The prince walked again at Dior’s Pre-Fall 2019 show in Tokyo the month after.

Months later he graced the cover of Vogue Ukraine Man in Spring 2019, draped in Dior, claiming “recycling will save the world” much to the pleasure of his adoring Gen Z fanbase.

In early 2022, the prince closed Danish brand Rains’ debut Paris Fashion Week show clad in a floor-length pink puffer gown. With slicked-back hair and a steely stare, the Prince looked every inch the catwalk legend, allowing the world to see the true star he's become.
Prince Nikolai is the cover star for Vogue Scandinvia's February-March issue. Dressed in Dior and shot by photographers Hill & Aubrey, the prince cuts an elegant figure, the crowning jewel of a modern monarchy.
