At 42, Nadia Bouchoucha is ready to take on the world. The time has come for her to focus on her modelling career, travel the world, become an archaeologist and maybe even direct a documentary

In Malmö, the heart of the southern part of Sweden, Nadia Bouchoucha is pushing for change with her elegant semi-nude pictures on her Instagram profile. To her, the female body is pure art, and she finds the texture of bare skin beautiful — she believes that every woman should feel confident in their own skin, no matter their body type or ethnicity.

Bouchoucha has always found herself questioning the ways of society, and although she had the opportunity to model in her twenties, she had her doubts and fears. Now, she reflects that she is thankful that she did not choose to go down the modelling path at that point in her life: “I had really low self esteem when I was younger, and I was very shy.” Instead, the free-spirited mother has trusted her own timing and is ready to take on the world at 42. “I find myself constantly questioning the structure of society,” she says. “Everything is based on your age, you’re supposed to do everything a certain way. By the time you’re 30, you should be a millionaire and then your life is over. Me? I had a child and got divorced at the same time, and 10 years later I’m ready for a new adventure.”

The model may have been shy in her younger years, but now she has no issues with posing in the nude. “I walk around naked in my house,” she tells me, laughter surfacing in her voice, “I think it’s important being comfortable in the nude. You shouldn’t cover yourself up or hide behind closed doors when you’re getting dressed, I think it boosts your confidence.” As we continue chatting about her relationship with her body and how she addresses these things with her daughter, she suddenly stops, “I’m not always naked you know, I know it sounds like it, but I’m definitely not.”

When asked what being in Vogue Scandinavia means to her, Bouchoucha’s face lights up with excitement, “It feels so big. I’m so happy that this opportunity came now, at this point in my life when I’m a grown woman, a little bit older. It actually means more to me that it’s happening to me now instead of in my twenties. I’m so thankful.” Looking forward, Bouchoucha will focus on her modelling career, she’s hoping to study archeology, and she wants to direct her own documentary — it’s safe to say that she’s only getting started.
