Meet the Australian ‘lightworker’ Pernille Tiesbaek and Margot Robbie count on for spiritual guidance

By Allyson Shiffman

Before Pernille Tiesbaek had revealed to her million-plus following that she was pregnant with her fourth child, one woman called it. In fact, this woman knew our most recent cover star was having a girl even before Tiesbaek knew herself. What’s more, she even correctly guessed the unborn child’s future name. All these big time premonitions happened via one half-hour FaceTime

Katrina Flokis, an Australian “lightworker” and healer, is the go-to spiritual guide for many big names. Tiesbaek, a self-described “spiritual person”, was hooked up with Flokis via Vogue Australia editor-in-chief Christine Centenera. Her other clients include Rita Ora and Margot Robbie, whom she had a session with when the actress was in town promoting Barbie. “I truly believe my gift is to help many on the planet, across the world,” Flokis tells me when I reach her on FaceTime. “I have the ability to heal – I’ve done very successful coma recoveries, I’ve healed cancer patients. It’s all about healing.”

But where does the “lightreading” part come in? As Flokis puts it, part of her practise entails “empowering people and helping them stick to their own true light”. “I believe everything has come from light,” she says. “If you look at sperm and ovum under a microscope, when they ignite, it sparks off a light. The Bible starts off with light.” Flanked by a white sculpture of Mother Mary, Flokis exudes kindness and conviction. She’s been doing this work for 30 years.

Flokis was not born with this gift, but rather acquired it when she was 20 years old. It’s a story she tells all of her clients on their very first reading. “I was giving birth to my son George and it all went horribly wrong,” she says, adding that she won’t go into the medical details. Sufficient to say, the doctors had to revive her. When she regained consciousness, she immediately realised something was different. “The first thing I noticed was the energy around everyone in the operating theatre and all these sacred shapes coming through,” she says. Her first thought was that the doctors had damaged her brain, affecting her vision. They told her that perhaps she had a migraine. “I’m like, ‘This is not a migraine’. Because everyone’s aura looked different,” she says.

The situation escalated. “I would have these profound, prophetic dreams and I would wake up in cold sweats. Then a few days later, my dreams would transpire,” she says. Rather than shy away from these premonitions, Flokis started “really aligning with what I was feeling”. She started getting visitations in her sleep – Mother Mary, archangels – telling her she’s a healer. In order to hone her gift, she spent 10 years learning about frequency vibrations, crystal therapy. She took courses, received accreditations in order to “really understand what energy is and what healing is”.

At the same time, Flokis is entrenched in a very different world, working as a Customer Experience Manager at healthcare giant Philips. Though her practise as a lightworker has really taken off, she maintains her position in the corporate sphere. “I feel like I need to be in both worlds,” she says. “The corporate space needs a lot of healing.” During Covid, she became a Mindfulness Ambassador at her workplace, leading her colleagues through virtual meditations during lockdown.

Having mastered her gift, Flokis is now able to “switch it off” in some capacity. “There was a time where I couldn’t sleep properly because I would be constantly working,” she says. “When you sleep, you go into a place of astral travelling. So I would leave my body and travel to different parts of the world that needed love and support or healing.” Still, I can’t help but ask if she has noticed anything about my aura over the course of our conversation. She tells me I’m going to be packing my bags soon, for some sort of trip.

With my curiosity officially peaked, I book in a session with Flokis a couple weeks later. She begins by telling me that she’s been tapping into my light and energy for a few days and that I have some healing qualities myself. We talk about my relationship, my career, my family, my upcoming wedding. Towards the end she pulls some tarot cards – not to brag but according to Flokis my future looks very bright. I conclude the half-hour reading feeling fresh and empowered. Now I just need to wait and see if it all comes true.
