Scandinavian personalities gathered in LA for a contemporary celebration of Lucia Day, with expectant Swedish model and musician Jennifer Åkerman leading the stylish charge
December in Los Angeles may not have plummeting Nordic temperatures and fairytale snowy surrounds, but the spirit of Lucia for its resident Scandinavians is just as palpable. A case in point, celebrations at the idyllic Californian Cara Hotel this week saw the Swedish consulate and Vogue Scandinavia team up with Nordic beauty brand Idun Minerals to host a poignant Lucia celebration.
The event attracted a star-studded group, including Skims model Ella Moore, Hollywood producer Henrik Bastin, author Sigge Sklund and actors Izabella Scorupco and Dolph Lundgren with his family. Renowned photographer Daniella Midenge and content creator Anastasia Souris were also in attendance. But there can only be one Lucia, with model and musician Jennifer Åkerman taking the luminous crown. Åkerman opted for a contemporary, monochromatic take on the traditional Lucia costume, with silk ribbons adorning the base of the crown – and at her waist – accentuating her newly-unveiled pregnant belly.
Åkerman married British actor Tom Payne in New York last year, and the new addition to their family will be their second child, joining their son Harrison who is two years old in January. In keeping with Lucia traditions, the expectant star was joined at the celebrations by 15 singing 'maids', all wearing Scandinavian designs including Movesgood shirts and Emma Israelsson jewellery.
