For vacation season, the Danish supermodel opens the doors to her summer home, giving us a glimpse at her little slice of heaven
“It was a very stormy day — almost hurricane level — and I remember we ran through the garden and in the front door,” Helena Christensen tells Vogue Scandinavia. “I must have been seven or eight months pregnant but as soon as I stepped in, the feeling inside of it was magical.”
Christensen is talking about her summer house in Denmark that she has owned now for over 22 years. At the time of purchase, she explains, she had been living in Paris and then New York but wanted a place to escape to when she returned home. She desired a place to give her son Mingus a little slice of nature. “I wanted to keep the feeling of everything as integrated with the ocean, with the beach, with the sand and with the rosehip bushes outside,” she says.

In this exclusive video, Vogue Scandinavia’s cover star takes us inside the property, explaining the object she’s filled it with, and why the place, that has 180-degree views of the ocean, continues to be a source of magic for her.
Residing most of the year in New York, she spends about two to three months here each year. “When I am up here, I do the same thing every day. I get up in the morning, I make coffee and I put on my swimsuit immediately. Most days, that's the only thing I wear. And then, I take my dog and a coffee down to the beach and we hang out there.”
