Summer sweaters are the style set's favourite staple, and should be yours too

Knitwear holds a soft spot in the hearts of Scandinavians and featured prominently across the board on Copenhagen runways last week. It popped up at A. Roege Hove, Aeron and Samsøe & Samsøe demonstrating that Scandinavian brands still value this classic staple outer wear. And who better to look to to seek inspiration from than our coveted style set who, when they aren’t adorning the streets of Copenhagen, can be found summering on the archipelago, their most prized summer knit never far out of reach primed for those cooler summer nights.

This beautiful Khaite knit is a favourite of Ellen Claeson, who in her own words said she’s been “wearing this look over and over again this summer,” and we don’t blame her one bit.

Vera Berg's grey jumper, set against the backdrop of the classically white and red sommarstuga, exudes a quintessential Swedish summer spent lolling about in the archipelago. Top tip: you want to choose one that can be easily thrown over a simple summer dress, but doesn't bulk out your suitcase too much.

Its hard for a photo to get more Scandi than this one. The windy beach, balancing on tip-toes atop of a bicycle, and, of course, the oversize knit. Anine Bing brings us a great statement sweater in black and white houndstooth. She knows the drill: “Scandinavia summer” she captions this dreamy shot. “One day heatwave, next day you wear your thickest winter knit.” Ahem to that.

Crochet has been making a comeback, from runway looks to sustainable high street options. There are few garments that nail the boho-chic look better than a good crochet piece. This gorgeous cream choice from Josefine Hanning Jensen oozes the off-duty elegance that the danish model is so famed for.

This fluffy Ganni choice is a modern take on classic Norwegian patters. It reminds us of childhood evenings spent sitting by our grandmother as they knit a traditional Selburose jumper, pulling the half-finished wool on from time to time to make sure it fits. There are few items that can be worn year round, honours old Scandinavian design and makes your grandmother happy in one fell swoop.
