As the dark days nestle into the Nordics, it becomes more important than ever to imbue our wardrobes with some joy. Fashioning a festive feeling, we've found that a dash of sparkly party wear in our weekly wardrobe rotation does the trick. That said, balancing our cocktail best for everyday wear can be a tricky task – that's why we've tapped Vogue Scandinavia's senior fashion editor Maria Barsoum for a low-down on how to dress-down sequins for daily use.
"I would say there are four different key pieces to invest in when wanting to add a more festive feeling to your look," says Barsoum. "A sparkling dress, glitter shoes, statement jewellery and a black see-through top or dress." Versatile wardrobe wonders which will take us a long way away when styling everyday sparkles.
Below, Barsoum answers two of our burning questions about breaking the winter blues with dressed-down dazzle:

Which key pieces should you pair your sparkly party wear with?
"Festive wear can be styled with any item that is normally considered basic, may it be a white t-shirt, a grey hoodie or a pair of sweatpants," says Barsoum. "Trust me when I say that adding sparkles to an outfit will not only make you look festive but also add a sparkle to your mood."
Better yet, dig deep in your wardrobe to give your distressed or damaged pieces new life. "Reach for garments that you love and simply cannot get rid of, but don't know how to make ‘acceptable’ to wear outside of your house," says Barsoum. "They are perfect to style festive wear with. Adding a long see-through dress over a pair of oversized distressed jeans will give them a new life."
How do you dress-down sequins to avoid your outfit feeling too 'over the top" for everyday wear?
According to Barsoum, there are several ways to incorporate sequins while keeping your outfit appropriate for everyday wear, whether office-bound or running weekend errands. “A good starting point is to buy neutral coloured sequins, for example a black sequin skirt or a silver bag,” says “Styling those with a button down shirt, a knitted cardigan and jeans will not draw unwanted attention while still adding a bit of festive feeling.”
