Human Design is the latest way to discover who you truly are

You’ve heard of manifestation, now it’s time to get acquainted with Human Design a practice that combines, astrology, kabbalah, chakras and quantum physics

I’m sitting in my bedroom, I’m tired and I’m late to my Human Design session because I’m working on 15 other things at the same time. So far not so good. When my Zoom host lets me in, I’m greeting a person who I immediately feel at ease with. Marli Montán is a Swedish Life coach and expert in Human Design - which is what we’re here to do.

I’ve already sent across my birth date and time. (Well estimated time, my parents couldn‘t remember and it wasn’t on my birth certificate.) Fortunately Marli assures me that my estimated time would still work for the session.

Marli became a Human Design coach in 2020 after burnout from working as a project manager at a fashion brand in Sweden. She then started studying the practice and became passionate about bringing Human Design to the Scandinavian market where she admits people are a little more “cynical” to many of the so-called new age practices.

“Here we we're more logical and we really live life from our analytical mindset, it's hard for people here to kind of do that work [self-development/Human Design] becauseI feel that a lot of people don't think that they're going to be accepted for being outside the norm.” That being said once her clients try it they are passionate and keen to tell their friends, hence most of Marli’s clients come from social media or word of mouth.

Can I just say, I’m also definitely a cynic. I don’t own crystals. The idea of shamans makes me snigger. Not a total cynic, I like vision boarding, and manifestation is a recent development I can get on board with… but I’m cynical enough to do a bit of eye-brow raising when it comes to practices I haven’t heard of such as Human Design. This is probably due to my ‘logical thinking brain’ (which I later find out that according to my Human Design scale is off the charts.)

We start our session and I’m immediately blown away. I don’t tell Montán anything (other than my aforementioned birthday) and none of the information she tells me during the session she could have gleaned from my social media.

It’s pretty remarkable. A pensive and serious child. True. Extrovert in my later years. Annoyingly true. Overly emotional. True. There’s plenty more where that came from and human design helps me understand funny little personality quirks, that make me feel like someone has just lifted the curtain on my personality. Marli explains it succinctly as, “a tool for self-awareness and for how people could live in alignment with their energy.”

By the end of my Human Design reading I feel like Montán knows be better than I know myself, which is odd but it’s comforting to feel so understood. It’s her insights into how I work and interact with others that I find most helpful and useful for understanding how I can improve or work on both in my personal life and at work.

Human Design combined with the Life Coaching aspect is Montán’s own creation “Combining Human Design with coaching has been a perfect match, I’m truly on a mission to guide my clients back to their inner power,” explains Montán, “I'm one of the few people that incorporates human design with coaching because for me, coaching people back to themselves like that to a sense of who you are is the way we should work with personal development," and I can totally see the value in it for her clients.

Essentially she takes the information she learns about her clients from a human design session and it enables her to practically help them improve their lives as she has an in-depth idea of how they operate on a regular basis. I found myself developing a much deeper understanding of what ‘makes me tick’ during the hour-long session and we came up with some practical ways to ‘level up’ areas of my life that I felt were lacking.

After telling her how much the experience resonated with me Marli explains, “It’s really interesting because when I give you this information and what most of my clients tell me as well, it's like if they feel really seen and they're like, I just feel at home with the information that they get.”

Maybe I will invest in some crystals after all.

So what is Human Design?

The Human Design system was founded in 1987 by a Canadian man named Ra Uru Hu (former Alan Krakower). He had an 8 day ‘channeling’ (a mystical experience) where all the information regarding this system came to him. Human Design is a combination of astrology, I Ching, Kabbalah, the Chakra system and quantum physics.

According to Montán,“It is a concrete map to the nature of being, a mapping of your genetic code, the coolest tool for self awareness and decision making.” The body graph - your map, consists of 9 energy centres, 36 channels, 64 gates, 6 different profile lines and together they will let you know who you are from an energetic perspective.

Your personal map lets you know what aura type you are, your life strategy, your authority (how to best make decisions), how you give and take in energy all to let you know how you can live life as the highest and most true version of yourself. The system shines light on both your conscious and unconscious personality traits. “If you have ever wondered what your true superpowers are, look no further, Human Design will reintroduce you to your first impression of yourself,” says Montán.

What happens during a Human Design session?

Your Human Design coach, in my case Montán, will interpret your reading for you which looks like a human torso covered in lots and lots of numbers and symbols and shapes. Like an in depth astrology reading, the numbers reflect the different aspects of your personality. There is a 400 page text book developed by Ra Uru Hu which enables you to understand the mechanical system of numbers.

Who is Human Design good for?

Anyone who is looking to find out more about themselves and live life to its fullest. As Montán says, “This is a system to get to know yourself better and live a life that is like 100 percent aligned with the person that you came here to be.”
