Fresh from styling hair at Copenhagen fashion week, pro hairstylist and head of hair Cim Mahony breaks down the look in five easy steps

Wandering backstage at Saks Potts, you’d come face-to-face with pictures of 2000s Paris Hilton, Gia Coppola, Helena Christensen and Hilary Swank, alongside a young Mary, Crown Princess of Denmark before she became royal. All inspiration for their latest show, plastered on a white board. What do all these women have in common? Well, yes they’re all pretty iconic, but they are also trendsetters. These women shaped what was considered cool back in the silver-shadow era and now, are doing it all over again.

With a plethora of models walking around the Copenhagen streets with smooth, side-parted, glossy hair one can only wonder — how can you emulate their look? Here, Cim Mahony, pro hairstylist and head of hair for the show, breaks down the look into five easy steps.

Step 1

A good look starts with a healthy mind, so before they even grapple with the locks, that's the first focus for the Mahony team. “We like to get the models relaxed and detangled with the Manta Pulse before we start the styling process. Like in the Studio Cim Mahony salon we practise mindful hairdressing; we do it at the backstages as well.”

Step II

“We used the Earlgrey Blow-Dry Spray from Less is More throughout the hair on all models backstage at Saks Potts. Earlgrey has a light hold and makes the hair incredibly shiny. The product is cosmos certified organic and I love the almost treatment-like feeling the hair gets when blow-dried.”

Step III

This step is all about working the product into the hair by drying out the strands to give the hair an overall straight and smoother finish. “Step three was our blowout session. Since the new Dyson Airwrap has just landed we did not yet have enough for each of the 12 hairstylists working backstage, so we were working on a combo of the Dyson supersonic and the Airwrap — glowing testament to the fact that the Airwrap can indeed give you salon results at home.”

Step IV

“For some of our models we wanted to add a little movement and body too. Here, we used the Airwrap with the round barrel. If we wanted to keep it straight and smooth, we used the cordless Corrale straightener from Dyson to go over the hair. This machine we also always carry in the line-up to do last minute touches as we can keep it operating out of our bag with no cord.”

Step V

“To finish off, we use the flyaway attachment on the new Airwrap. The idea is to instantly kill flyaways and baby hairs and smooth them down, meaning we need to use less hairspray and have a more natural look.”
