Here's how to incorporate florals into your space, the Scandi way

By Linnéa Ruiz Mutikainen

Forget strict tone-on-tone interiors, this season we swap zeitgeist neutrals for just a dash of uplifting blooms. Here, ByTimo's Elisa Mollatt provides with three pointers

Muted hues and sleek lines have long been cherished by Nordic tastemakers. From trustworthy closet staples to curated home spaces, quintessential minimalism is the trademark theme. While timeless palettes may continue to reign supreme, we’re ready to switch things up and opt for unexpected contrast. Think beyond colour choice, complimenting neutral smooth with neo-bohemian prints – and yes, florals lead the way.

Florals are well-known wardrobe saviours, serving uplifting eye-catchers in sleek contrast to our earthy go-to uniforms. The home interior take is no different, offering playful contrasts with a natural nod to Scandinavia’s fundamental core; its strong connection to nature.

Norwegian fashion brand ByTimo neatly embodies (and welcomes) this change, releasing their own home range filled with boho-infused blooms. “I think it’s a counter movement to minimalism,” says marketing manager Elisa Mollatt. “People want to add more personality and colour. We’re essentially lusting for the lively maximalism that defined Scandinavia back in the 1960s and 70s.”

For ByTimo, the decision to dabble into uplifting interiors was by no means unexpected. “It’s been in the back of my head since I started the brand almost twenty years ago,” founder Tine Mollatt recalls. The inaugural collection pay homage to the past, influenced by antiques and vintage finds according to Mollatt. Upholstered furniture meets soft textiles, offering an array of unique details for each corner of your home. Conscious materials are key, with plenty of sustainable choices. And if you can’t get enough of the bloom, you can buy the delicate fabrics by the meter.

Once you’re ready to infuse florals, Mollatt points at the importance of textiles. “Cushion covers, table cloths and napkins are all easy to change.” When a new season approaches, dare to play with placement for a sense of renewal. “Move them around and try out new stylings for a playful feel.” For cohesion, let the colour of the print match your already existing interiors. Finish off with the trendiest florals of the season, dried branches. Place a few branches in a vase or opt for one, creating a sleek minimalist-fuelled statement.

Below, Elisa Mollatt lists her three favourites from the newly-released ByTimo home range – and how to best style them this season.

1

The room divider

I’ve always had a soft spot for room dividers. They add uniqueness and personality to any home space. I adore the print of this one, it reminds me of décor from my own childhood home. Place it behind your bed as a headboard, put it in front of your wardrobe or simply use it as intended. Either way, you’re guaranteed to change up the dynamic of your room.

2

The cushions

The large tassel cushions are my favourites. I will style them with other printed cushions, really going all-in with maximalism. Adding extra cushions on your bed, sofa or chair is a great way to boost the ambience as well.

3

Soft textiles for dining

Holiday season is swiftly approaching, which means plenty of buzzy dinners and gatherings. I love the concept of elevating your tablescape with textiles. These linens and napkins do the trick, creating a unique and personalised feel.
