Helmstedt and Maanesten collaborate on a jewellery collection that’s out of this world

By Allyson Shiffman

Having collaborated on the showpieces for Helmstedt’s latest runway show, Helmstedt and Maanesten collaborate on a space age capsule jewellery collection, aliens inclusive

Like the universe itself, Helmstedt’s world is ever-expanding. Now, the beloved Danish brand brings the space age magic of its autumn/winter 2023 collection to a capsule jewellery collection with fellow Danes Maanesten. An adaptation of the showpieces the two brands made for Helmstedt’s runway show, the broaches and earrings, rings and necklaces launch on May 13th. “We are both working in dreamy universes that are deeply inspired by the nature surrounding us,” says Emilie Helmstedt of the collaboration. “It makes it a good step towards reaching the moon and stars together.”

The eight-piece collection reflects a very Helmstedt fantasy, tinged with whimsy and charming imperfection. The reoccurring motif is the alien head; it finds its way onto studs and dangly earrings, a standout brooch and a rope-string necklace. Realised by sterling silver plated in 18K gold, its gleaming eyes are made from amethyst, gemstone and pearls. Elsewhere we find starfish and half-moons, all with Maanesten’s signature organic form.

The capsule marks the first time Maanesten collaborates with a clothing brand, and per Lotte Venø Callesen, Maanesten founder and CEO, it was a perfect fit. “Helmstedt and Maanesten have a lot in common; craftsmanship, originality, and the love of colours and shapes,” she says, noting that both brands are well-represented in the final product (“It’s the best of both worlds”). Venø Callesen’s favourite piece? “The Archie brooch is really something else,” she says, speaking of the large alien brooch that is a near recreation of the one that marched down the runway at Helmstedt’s runway show. “It’s a bold statement and the styling opportunities are endless.”

Meanwhile, Helmstedt herself can’t possibly pick a favourite, but she is a “big fan” of the alien ring. “It’s fun and quirky,” she says. As for whether she believes in aliens herself? “I don’t, but I believe in the fairytale.”
