What does beauty mean to you?

Beauty is an every day indulgence. It leaves me feeling like I’ve done something extra just for myself. I use a lot of great products – it’s a whole ritual – even though it doesn’t take long.

Talk us though your morning beauty routine

I may vary the brands that I use but I always focus on certain base ingredients like hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and SPF. I start the day with a double cleanse, first massaging my skin with an oil cleanser (Okologisk Renseolie Naturlig Olie Cleansing Oil) and then a foaming one (Karmameju Now 03 Micellar Foam Cleanser). Next, I use an AHA toner pad that gives my skin a light daily peel before using the moisture magnet that is Bioeffect EGF Essence. It not only adds moisture, it makes all the following layers of skincare perform better.

Then I'll apply my serums. I always use one that contains hyalorunic acid serum, such as Tromborg's Anti-Wrinkle Serum, to plump my skin. I'll add a vitamin C serum over the top to fight the free radicals from sun exposure and pollution. Mantle's The Wow Serum is excellent. At this time of year I mix a few drops of Rudolph Care Acai Facial Oil into my face cream then finish with La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMUNE 400 Hydrating Cream SPF 50.

I know it seems like a lot, but I mostly apply everything in thin layers.

What’s your biggest skin concern?

I have sun damage on my forehead and the sides of my face. These melasma spots are only really visible during summer, but they are new to my face and I'm still trying to accept their presence. Twice a day I use the Nimue Skin Conditioner, which is a fruit peel. I'll combine it with a stronger peel or the Nimue Active Lotion two to three times a week at night.

This is a non-invasive way of treating hyperpigmentation and has really given me amazing results. Peels shouldn't be taken lightly as they can cause sensitivity. I was guided by a clinic while my skin slowly got used to higher concentrations of AHAs.

Which three products are always in your makeup bag and why have they earned a place there?

I always use mascara to make my eyes pop. You'll also find Tromborg Lip Cure in my makeup bag because I like a non-glossy, but moisturised lip. I've recently discovered Glossier's Stretch Concealer which I love. It's really light but gives just enough coverage. I don't use it every day – only when I need it. I prefer to blend it in as a light foundation rather than to cover under my eyes. I like my dark circles and see them more as a feature than an imperfection.

How do you look after your hair?

My hair tops the list of things I care about most beauty-wise. I've always had easy-to-manage, wavy hair that looked just right when I woke up. But my hair structure has changed – a few greys have appeared and I have more frizz than ever before. I recently starting using Meishai hair care products as they are gentle and perfume-free. I shampoo all over my head, apply the Treatment, which opens the hair cuticle to let the nourishing ingredients in, and then finish with conditioner, which seals the cuticle, making sure to apply all three steps to my scalp, too. The scalp need moisture after shampooing, just like your face.

What is your favourite fragrance?

They discontinued Stella by Stella McCartney, which I have used for almost 20 years, and it actually made me really sad because it was my signature scent and holds so many memories from my youth. My latest favourite is Diptyque L’Ombre Dans L’Eau, a citrusy scent that is very summery and fresh and will cheer me up on winter days.

What’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever been given?

I’ve been fortunate to sit in the makeup chair for 20 years. The best advice I've been given is to always use quality products; really think about what you put on your skin. Moisture is always the key word.

What are the beauty practices you’ve learned from the women in your family?

I actually grew up with my father and have carried his simple take on appearance with me throughout my life. It's one of the main reasons I don’t wear a lot of makeup daily. But he is probably also the reason I had to get my information about skincare and makeup elsewhere and why I turned into a pretty big beauty geek!

What was your greatest beauty discovery?

I love using Gua Sha and recommend it to everyone. The handheld tool is a natural way of giving your skin glow and, even better, minimises lines. It really works when I use it consistently. A bonus is that it takes away tension, which would eventually cause lines to form. I either do a 'quickie' using my oil cleanser or take my time with a longer session while watching TV.

What beauty advice would you give your younger self?

Use sunscreen – that would be my number one. God, I wish I'd used it a lot more when I was younger! The second bit of advice is that skincare is hard work; there’s no easy fix.

Do you have a beauty or wellness secret?

It's a huge gift to your skin to get regular facials done by a professional. I go every six weeks to Amalieklinikken for their Fire & Ice treatment, which has an instant wow effect.
