First stop the bathroom

Finally, it’s time for the part I’ve been longing for the most - all the different choices for the apartment. As I mentioned in the last post, we have had a quite clear vision of how we wanted the apartment to look but lots of other ideas have come to mind during the process.

When we bought the apartment, the bathroom wasn’t very big at all but we still wanted to put a lot of energy into re-doing it. We found our dream tile at the Franska Kakelbutiken and were thrilled when they had exactly the number of square metres that we needed.

For the walls, we chose a cream white tile that we’ve loved since we first laid eyes on it. We want the overall look to not feel too modern, so it was important for us to find a tile with an uneven surface within the right colour shade.

We also added a black edge between the floor and the walls which we felt was a beautiful detail.

For me, it is so important to find a balance in my interior style and to add some not so obvious choices as a contrast. Therefore, we chose a quite typical, traditional basin and shower but also a more modern toilet. We then painted the roof down over the walls in an oat-yellow tone which made the result so warm and gorgeous.

Finding the perfect colour scheme

The bathroom is getting more and more finished, and the delivery time of the kitchen is getting closer every day. Everywhere we look, there are boxes and all we want to do is move in and to start unpacking them. But one thing at a time, and first we need the painter to come.

When it comes to the overall colour scheme in the apartment, we wanted to stick to a key colour palette that keeps the apartment more toned down than last one we had (which was very bright). Our first thought is to have a green kitchen with inspiration from one of our favourite restaurants in Milan, Da Giacomo.

However, after a lot of back and forth, we agreed that the 'Da Giacomo' look would be too rustic for us, so instead decided to go for a new idea. After trying a bunch of different colours, we found the perfect dusty pink. This colour combined with appliances in stainless steel and a brown-beige bench top felt like a match made in interior heaven.

I did a mood board for the overall colour scheme in the apartment, to make sure that they would be aligned to each other. Here it is:

For most of the walls, we went for a white shade. I got a tip that the perfect white shade goes under the name ‘Slipper Satin’ from Farrow & Ball and yes – it sure was the perfect white.

A dream of ours has always been to have a blue roof and this living room, which is very airy, felt like the perfect place to make our dream come true.

For the living room, we went for a very pleasant green tone while the bedroom got a dusty blue.

Furniture check list

One thing that has been high priority on the to-do list, is to visit Capsule interior studio to check in on our dream chairs designed by Pierre Jeanneret. Purchasing these is something we are hoping to do in the beginning of 2022.

As you may remember from the last story, the floor was in need of an update and after some sanding and polishing, it turned out this perfect. Stay tuned for the next chapter...
