A custom side table made by the coveted Swedish designer just landed in Emma Chamberlain's home. Here's everything you need to know

As of now, Emma Chamberlain can count herself amongst the lucky ones who have a custom Gustaf Westman piece in their homes, as the buzzy Swedish designer created a bespoke side table for the American social media mogul. How did these two powerhouses find each other? Through Instagram DMs, naturally.

“We just had a quick chat on Insta DM, she [Emma Chamberlain] said she was in need of a side table and a small mirror so I just asked her if I could try to design both in one. She liked the idea,” Westman says. Approaching the piece with a firm focus on functionality – like Westman does with all of his work – he sketched and dreamt up a wheel-like shelf design with a little round mirror attached to one of its protrusions. “It was the first idea that I sent her and she liked it right away, so it was smooth,” Westman says.

After some back and forth, the duo ended up on a delicious mint green shade reflecting Westman’s pieces’ whimsical, candy-coloured nature. Once all the details had been locked in, the side table was 3D-printed together with a London-based artist with whom Westman has worked before. “He specialises in making 3D-printed objects with a smooth surface so that’s why I love working with him,” Westman says. “He also did the miniature objects that we had in our Amsterdam pop up.”

I love Emma’s home and she seems to like unique objects so I guess it fits well there.

Finally, it was time for the side table to fly to Chamberlain’s home in Los Angeles, where it fits snugly in the multi-hyphenate’s neutral-toned abode. “I think [the piece] reflects my design in the sense that it’s a simple object where the function is very present in the design,” says Westman. “I love Emma’s home and she seems to like unique objects so I guess it fits well there.”
