The epitome of 'booked and busy' throughout the autumn/winter 2023 season, Swedish model of the moment Vilma Sjöberg fills us in on the ups and down of her wildly successful fashion month

Gliding down a myriad of runways – from Schiaparelli couture in Paris, to MaxMara in Milan and Altuzarra in New York – Stockholm-based Vilma Sjöberg has just reached the close of a stellar season.

While the 22-year-old Swedish model, with her angelic features, ethereal fair complexion and never-ending limbs, is no stranger to a Vogue cover or international campaign now, she started out from humble beginnings amid the local Scandinavian scene, walking for By Malina, Ida Sjösdetd and Stand Studio during bygone seasons of Stockholm Fashion Weeks.

After cheering her on from the runways' sidelines time and time again throughout the autumn/winter 2023 circuit, below, we connect with Sjöberg to recap on her experience of fashion month.

What was the most thrilling achievement for you this season?
Probably working with new designers that I have never worked with before. It was my first time walking for Off-White and Alberta Ferretti, for example. It’s always fun to meet new people!

Is there one look you got to wear that you were particularly obsessed with?
It's so hard to choose. I loved the coat at Max Mara, the designs are always very chic and elegant. But if couture week counts, it’s probably the white coat from Schiaparelli.

Which beauty look from this season that you loved the most?
That would probably be the hair at the Moschino show in Milan! Paul Hanlon and his team had been preparing the wigs for three months and it was so amazing see it all come together! It was really a cool look, but quite hard to manage [laughs] – it had to be stitched to the models' hair and it was pretty heavy as well. Everywhere backstage there were signs reminding the models to 'watch their hair'!

What was your most 'stressful' situation this season?
For the Cavalli show, I arrived only one hour before the show would start. And they had to do a smokey eye and put in a lot of extensions… I had five people working on me at the same time! And once I got dressed, I found my shoes was two sizes too big. Luckily we could fix it with a lot of insoles, tape and stuffing.

What would you say is the biggest misconception about being a model during fashion week?
Probably that there is a lot of partying and glamour. It’s hard work running around to castings, fittings and shows. Although there are parties and events, you almost never have the time or energy when you work a lot! It’s better to sleep the few hours you can.

What do you do in your downtime between runway shows?
If I have some time off, I try to do some self care, like eating a proper meal, sleeping and working out. My boyfriend visited me during Paris Fashion Week, so I spend time with him. When I had a few hours off, we went to a really nice hammam. It was much needed.
