Gestuz - runway - SS23

By Josefin Forsberg

This season we were heat-struck while watching Gestuz's spring/summer 2023 runway show

Gestuz set a precise tone when presenting its spring/summer collection. Evoking LA during the late 90s and early 00s, a 'Heat Haze' (as the collection was so aptly named) settled in the Copenhagen space ahead of the Danish brand’s show. It was almost as if you could smell the sweet scent of sun oil and salty sweat in the air. Well, you almost could, as Gestuz's presentation set out to arouse all senses, creating a special ice cream, soundtrack, and dedicated scent to accompany the collection. According to scent designer Kim Gerlach, the specially designed fragrance contained "clean odours of magnolia and other white florals" with a "tenacious creaminess from notes of vanilla".

An homage to a particular version of glamour that begot the era – spearheaded by the likes of Destiny’s Child, TLC and JLO – the collection leaned on a utilitarian type of sexy, with tiny tops and cargo trousers, mini-mini skirts and skin-bearing ensembles. “I saw the collection being worn by confident women who are not afraid to look sexy and show a bit of skin while still keeping the rock’n’roll attitude,” says creative director and founder Sanne Sehested. And with a line-up of low-waisted trousers featuring thongs on full display, leather jackets and pops of silver accessorised by boots reaching the mid-calf and slicked back hair, the designer struck all the right chords.

The tight dresses and mini hemlines are contrasted by voluminous trousers and sophisticated suits. “My absolute favourite piece is the short white leather jacket,” Sehested says. “It has it all. It is so rock’n’roll yet so feminine.” The colour scheme is based in muted hues of light sand, dark olive green and brown with pops of flaming orange, sunny blue and a bright lime green. These pops can be seen both in the garments and in the line-up of accessories to compliment the collection. “We have included bags as well,” says Sehested. “We have mid-sized leather clutches in colours from the collection, a shiny silver pouch-looking clutch and a tote bag in cracked leather."

For the first time, Gestuz’s collection contains pieces that are “see now, buy now”, meaning that they’re available straight after the show. But for now, see all of the brand’s spring/summer 2023 looks below:
