The Danish brand releases two new, limited-edition pieces commemorating the past reign of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and the new era ushered in by King Frederik X
Earlier this year, we witnessed a historical moment when Queen Margrethe II of Denmark stepped down from the throne in January. A truly rare event for Danes and the rest of the world, the abdication has sparked numerous tributes commemorating the occasion. Now, renowned Danish jewellery brand Georg Jensen is joining in by launching two special-edition pieces dedicated to the country’s beloved former Queen and newly minted King Frederik X of Denmark.
First up, the company is launching a ‘Daisy’ brooch, a dainty floral-inspired piece crafted from sterling silver and plated in 18k gold. As a unique touch, the brooch features the engraved date of Queen Margrethe’s abdication, 14 January 2024. The piece’s design takes cues from a similar, daisy-shaped brooch once worn by Margrethe’s mother, Queen Ingrid, during her wedding to King Frederik IX.
The daisy motif holds a treasured meaning in Margrethe’s reign, as a host of Danish jewellers created daisy-shaped pieces as gifts following Margrethe’s birth, inspired by her affectionate nickname, Daisy. The flower has also served as the muse for Georg Jensen’s popular Daisy jewellery collection. Fittingly, the brooch will be available to shop on 16 April, the 84th birthday of Queen Margrethe.

A month later, on 14th May, Georg Jensen will launch its second special-edition piece, the ‘Grape’ bonbonniere, commemorating the beginning of King Frederik X and Queen Mary’s reign. The date holds particular significance as it marks the couple’s 20th wedding anniversary, one of the pair’s most cherished moments. Crafted from sterling silver, the bonbonniere’s lid boasts a delicately hammered surface, evoking the style of early Georg Jensen silver hollowware. Adorning the lid is a meticulously designed grape-shaped ornament, one of the brand’s most iconic motifs, synonymous with the celebrated works of silversmith Georg Jensen himself.
The Daisy brooch will be available for purchase starting April 16th, and the Grape bonbonniere will be available starting May 14th, respectively, at georgjensen.com
