Ahead of Stine Goya’s yearly online archive sale, we sit down with the Danish designer to chat about the GOYA Gallery project and her favourite pieces that are up for offer

Opening the doors in May last year, the GOYA Gallery – the brand’s physical archive store in Copenhagen – has become a favourite among the Danish fashion crowd. Launched as a part of the brand’s commitment to sustainability, the GOYA Gallery concept focuses on cyclical shopping. “Our desire was to start looking at what already exists around us. We want to offer customers the chance to shop old seasons, collection classics, unique samples and up-cycled one-offs,” explains founder and creative director Stine Goya.

In the past, Stine Goya and her team have hosted a regular sample and archive sale at the brand's offices. With the success of the sample sales, the team came to consider a brick-and-mortar location dedicated to past collections. “We had been planning the gallery for a while, but could not find the right spot,” she says.

The physical location was originally designed as an additional retail destination in the heart of Østerbro. “We thought it would make sense to turn the store into the gallery to get going with this idea,” says Goya. With stuccos painted a dusty pink, golden swooping rails and concrete pedestals in shades reminiscent of cotton-candy, the space is every bit the aesthetically pleasing location we’ve come to expect from the Danish designer.

Since the launch last year, the GOYA Gallery has garnered popularity among fans of the brand that look to add something special to their Stine Goya collections. The yearly online archive sale is a digital extension brick-and-mortar store. “We want to give our worldwide community access and delve deep into our archive and discover pieces from our history,” says Goya “Perhaps the pieces that got away.”

Knits will be a big feature in the online archive sale.

The iconic Rhode dress will also be available.

For Stine Goya, selecting the pieces for the digital sale started with a deep dive into the brand's archive of exclusive runway styles and showpieces. “We really want the online version of our GOYA Gallery to be special,” she explains. The pieces picked by the designer and her team are exclusively available online, for three days only from October 7 to October 10, 2021.

“Two of our most iconic pieces that will be featured – our Janika and Lila showpieces. They are beautiful one-off evening dresses, made completely from sustainable materials,” explains Goya. Also in the lineup are some of the designer's favourite styles and the brand's most popular pieces, such as the brand's very first puffer coats – Celia and Madia – and the Rhode dress in floral prints.

In its most recent runway collection, Stine Goya further explored how knitwear fits into its kaleidoscopic world. With celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber endorsing the brand’s knits (the Adonis sweater in particular), it is only natural for the product category to be included in the selection. “Over the years, it has become a real signature for us,” says Goya. The online sale with contain classics like the brand’s Alex or Sana sweaters.

Stine Goya explains that with the Goya Gallery and the online archive sale, the brand wants to change the culture and conversation around old seasons. A conversation that will help consumers close the gap between production and waste. “We want to keep our collections in closets and out of landfills.”

The archive sale will go live tomorrow on stinegoya.com.
