Carrie, is that you? Stepping out on the streets of the Big Apple during fashion week, Danish content creator Emili Sindlev looked uncannily like our favourite New York columnist – capris included
“Who do people say that you look like?” It is an innocent enough question often flung around at dinner parties across the world. In fact, it passed across my very own dinner table just last night. For Danish content creator Emili Sindlev, it's easy enough to answer. Sindlev has earned the moniker of ‘Copenhagen’s Carrie Bradshaw’– a fitting comparison considering her waist-long golden mermaid waves and enviable ability to put together a look.
Even with this knowledge, our editorial team had to do a double take during New York Fashion Week. Sindlev has been a fixture on the streets of the Big Apple, often spotted front row at shows on the American stop-off of the fashion month circuit. This season, however, one look in particular had us claiming Sindlev as 1990s era Carrie Bradshaw reincarnated. Wearing a staple of the fictive columnist’s wardrobe, Sindlev sent us searching for capri-cut denim trousers in preparation for spring.
When styling the turn-of-the-millennium staple, Sindlev leaned into Sex and The City nostalgia – all without direct replication. In true '00s fashion, Sindlev layered a white baby-T under a checkered cropped vest with embellished buttons. But the references didn’t end there. Of course, a silver Fendi baguette (bestowed with 'It'-bag status after its appearance in the series) was nestled under Sindlev’s arms.
No Bradshaw-inspired look, consciously created or otherwise, is complete without a pair of covetable heels, and Sindlev did not disappoint with her choice. Sindlev’s choice of mesh pointed-toe pumps from Jean-Paul Gaultier’s tattoo-inspired collaboration with Jimmy Choo would no doubt make Carrie proud.
As if that wasn’t enough, even the New York Times – carried casually in the same hand as an anonymous take away coffee – brought us back. After all, Is there a more iconic dress in Carrie's closet than the Dior Newsprint dress? Designed by John Galliano for the French maison's spring/summer '00 collection, it captivated the fashion masses when it first came on screen in season three of Sex and The City.
