Yesterday, Drake dropped the music video to his new single Sticky. In a surprising turn of events, the video is an ode to Swedish institutions
This summer, Drake broke the internet with a surprise album release. The record Honestly, Nevermind features a new House-inspired sound and a line-up of tracks that are competing for the coveted 'song of the summer' spot. Proving victorious, the single Sticky just climbed the to the top of the ranks, accompanied by a new music video.
With almost three million views already, the video sees Drake travelling the world in private jets, in an homage to his entourage. Surprisingly enough, Stockholm was one of the selected stops on his world-wide tour. Following flashing images of the Grand Hôtel and Royal Palace, we see Drake submerged in the instantly recognisable azure-blue pool of Sturebadet spa and standing on top of the world at the balcony terrace of Stockholm institution Södra Teatern.
Stella Scocco, club manager of Södra Teatern, was thrilled to host Drake and his team at the club. "We are of course so happy that our amazing venue got to be a part of this project. The view from the top floor bar overlooks the entirety of Stockholm and is – together with the Mosebacke terrace – a true Stockholm institution," she says. "I loved that all the sites shown in the video from Stockholm aired so much of the city and Scandinavian aesthetics!"
But it doesn't stop there. Drake and his crew, including Swedish twins and long-time muses of Drake, Elizabeth and Victoria Lejonhjärta, have dinner in the iconic Spegelsalen (Mirror Hall) at the Grand Hôtel in the middle of the city. In true Scandinavian fashion, Drake and the Lejonhjärta sisters also took a trip to the countryside, granted in what he calls an "off-road Maybach", to fish in the lake. Dressed in full water-proof windbreakers, the trio were ready for the unpredictable nature of Swedish weather.
Drake's unexpected visit and ode to Swedish summer is nothing short of iconic— and we can't help but feel honoured.
