As Katy Perry says, "You’re from a whole 'nother world, a different dimension, you open my eyes and I’m ready to go, lead me into the light"
I’ll be honest, the moment the (di)vision AW22 runway started and the first model — sorry, alien — stepped down the runway I was immediately lost in their eyes — or lack of them? I was sent down a hypnotising black hole where the only thing in the background were the stars and comets of Copenhagen's Tycho Brahe Planetarium. What brought me down to earth? The burning, blushing sensation of the sight of one's futuristic lover — another beauty look, quite on par with the makeup of the alien that first struck me.
For the show, Marie Thomsen, head of beauty and M.A.C Cosmetics artist, created two looks - the alien and the blushing futuristic lover who believes. “For those who believe, we used excessive bronzer and a warm cream blush,” explains Thomsen. “We went with a colour similar to brick for an outdoor look, the eyes had a glazed finish and were smudged with warm browns being topped off with brown mascara.” To keep the palette consistent, “lips were smudged with a warm matte colour for a sunburnt finish — we wanted a sweaty, warm, dusty and sexy look,” - and boy did they achieve it.
Other than that, the aliens themselves were simple, with skin-coloured lips and toned-down brows, allowing the eyes to stand out. Eyes that in order to complete the fantasy were completely blacked out with void-black contact lenses, simply transcendental, on another level. To finish off the fantasy, they contoured the valleys of the face with a cool light brown to define, and highlighted the high points with a pearly ombre shade — a look set to deliver even in a different dimension and on different DNA.
