For spring/summer 2023, the model and actor becomes an enigmatic muse for the cult Swedish label
Last September, Acne Studios threw a twisted wedding party of a runway show in Paris to celebrate its tenth year of presenting in the French capital. Now, as the collection drops, the label has called on model and actor Devon Aoki as its spring/summer 2023 protagonist.
40-year-old Aoki, who soared to stardom in the '90s and '00s despite her petite 5”4 stature, is captured by Dutch visual artist and photographer Carlijn Jacobs in the collection, which brings a subversive spin to classic occasionwear. I love the energy behind the Acne Studios," says Aoki. "The pieces are beautifully made, very flattering on, but feel 'sui generis' like sculpted pieces of art floating down the runway," she goes on.

Reminiscent of the Acne Studios show set for SS23, soft pink silk sheets provide the backdrop for Devon as she dons some of the key looks from the runway collection, including a transparent tulle gown, a deconstructed gingham set and a ruched, asymmetrical dress echoing a silky pillowcase. Surprising details appear throughout the campaign as well, like the supersized pearlescent seashell earrings framing Aoki's face.
"The collection goes beyond clothing's physical constraints," Aoki notes, "feminine and strong, with a touch of the experimental." Her pick for SS23? Look 9's see-through column dress, adorned with colourful petals, pared against a pink leather coat with pearlescent silk lining and spiked bow shoes. In Aoki's own words: "Delicate but with an element of danger."
