The heels were out as Vogue Scandinavia's shoes and handbag expert, Sandra Hagelstam took on Copenhagen Fashion Week

Copenhagen Fashion Week returned in its colourful, effortless glory, as the Scandinavian style set geared up for another week of back to back shows. This was the first time in years that it really felt like the schedule had returned to its pre-pandemic, maximalist force. An array of shows where shown in open, public spaces, a change from the intimate settings we’ve grown custom to lately. Naturally, I packed my happiest accessories to celebrate the triumphant return.

While tradition calls for debuting upcoming autumn/winter accessories for the event packed week, the +25C sunny weather (and the reality that we are running out of summer days) prompted me to pack my best sandals and smallest bags for Copenhagen. Skinny, strappy sandals usually lean towards the least comfortable end of the spectrum, but are worth it in the short run (meaning you change numerous times a day). These are the kind of shoes that leave enough room for more experimental dressing without falling into a wallflower category. The skinniest of them all was the rose heeled Loewe sandals, a shoe that I seem to have a unfading love for as you’ve seen them here before. Daccori’s metallic sandals is another firm favourite that I’ve travelled with lately, alongside a more wearable metallic sandal by Katrine Hanna.

Platforms are the shoes making the biggest waves both on and off the runways and are naturally a shoe fit for fashion week. I have had Valentino’s cream coloured Tan-go pumps on a heavy rotation after I invested in them last spring, and as their upcoming fall collections indicated, the doll-like platforms are here to stay. Speaking of Barbie shoes, my latest addition is Malone Souliers pink, satin platforms that are the perfect marriage of retro and contemporary. They also happen to be my most comfortable pair and was since my go-to pair for all evening events (read: after parties).

As for bags, I relied on my trusted favourites – Chanel’s quilted mini purse and my Hermes Kelly that is a bag hard to top. NYC based brand Savette is my contemporary go-to that I’ve collected two of to date. The box, top handle style with a twist lock prompts a lot of curiosity and is designed with scratch-proof leather an adjustable straps. The designer cut her teeth at The Row and Khaite which explains her impeccable aesthetic and my fascination for her sleek designs.

My latest shoe purchase is the incredible Saint Laurent PVC slingback that is shaping up to be the shoe of the season. Pointy, low cut with a high cigarette heel, this seductive pair had me tiptoeing around the cobble stone covered pavements and thankful that I brought flats to change into. As a change from the new season, I also packed some older Bottega Veneta sandals that still hold a special place in my heart, the spiral sandals that I appreciate for their originality and a neon feather pair that embodies the new spirit of Scandinavian fashion – bright bold and a little bit bonkers.
