Chanel’s latest runway show was a masterclass in autumnal makeup

By Esteban G Villanueva

From the burgundy tones to the muted finishes, let the runway makeup of the house of Chanel cast a spell on you

Some may think of the perfect Chanel runway finish as a touch of tweed or luminous pearls, but on the fall/winter 2022 runway, it was the rich and striking autumnal makeup. With the change of seasons, comes a yearning for a change in aesthetics. So for this new stretch of the year, we look to this show for inspiration and references for our fall makeup.

Burgundy lips

Chanel's seasonal makeup statement comes back in the form of deep, rich, burgundy-coloured lips. Flattering on all, the shade elevates a look entirely on its own and can be applied to achieve different saturations: from a matte or velvety finish to a fully done lip, or tinted balm way, with just a tad of pigment coating the lips.

Low-saturation complexion

Long gone is the era of over blushing or ulta highlighting, for this new season make a statement out of the understatement of colours and stick to a more muted, flesh-coloured skin finish. With a contour that is essentially unperceivable and a highlight that is confused with natural glow, it gives ‘no makeup, makeup’ a whole new meaning.

Monochrome hues

Finally, if adding a bit more shade and colour is what you’re after but don't want to commit to darker shades or bold lipsticks, opt for a combination of shadow, blush and lipstick that lives within the same chrome. This will allow for an effortless cohesiveness in your look.
