Met Gala 2024: The best hats and headpieces on the red carpet

With the Met Gala 2024 red carpet officially underway at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the night’s dresses were an obvious draw – but it was the headpieces that made us do a double take. Interpreting ‘The Garden of Time’ dress code, celebrities embraced headpieces that felt plucked from a Wunderkammer with critter and fauna-inspired headwear.

Zendaya’s dramatic ocean-blue Margiela look accented with an emerald green veil set the tone for evening, and appeared to be wrapped around a cobwebbed bird’s nest – a thoughtful detail that played off the little bird perched on her neck. Defying the laws of gravity, a crystal brooch pinned to Sarah Jessica Parker’s Philip Treacy hat kept her flower petal-inspired design in full bloom.

Ayo Edebiri took a subtler approach, opting for a clipping of pastel floral appliqués that were pinned to her low-slung bun. Amy Fine Collins paid tribute to both the fauna and flora with gilded horns, while Sabrina Harrison embraced the Met Gala 2024 theme ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’ in a more literal way with a headpiece resembling a watch face, representing the hands of time.
