The who’s-who of fashion stepped out at the Met Gala last night in their interpretation of ‘The Garden of Time’. Here Vogue Scandinavia's editors cast their votes on who understood the assignment best
Flowers, butterflies, and miniature birds on shoulders – the ‘Garden of Time’ theme for this year’s Met Gala, held to celebrate the opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s newest exhibition ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’, saw all manner of flora and fauna spill out onto the Costume Institute steps.
But amongst the spectacle that is Met Gala and the hundreds of guests who nab an invitation, there can only be a handful who make their way onto the best-dressed list. Here, Vogue Scandinavia delivers its verdict on the top looks from the green-tinged carpet. Scroll on for the team's choices.

Taylor Russel in Loewe.
“Taylor Russel, my fellow Canadian, takes the cake for me in custom Loewe. It's on-theme but not on-the-nose and creative but not costumey. Plus, she looks amazing – that sculptural bodice is simply wow. Oh Canada indeed.”

“Yes, there are mermaids in fashion's eternal 'Garden of Time'. Kaia's understated Prada look doesn't scream out for attention, but I keep coming back to its subtle shimmering paillettes and aquatic aura. The va-va-voom hair, pulled straight from her mum's '90s supermodel playbook, really tops it off.”

“While I was pleasantly surprised by Kim Kardashian's look, with its mix of unexpected materials, Ashley Graham looked stunning in Ludovic.”

“Singer Tyla in Balmain was my best dressed! Its giving Sands of Time - on theme but not too on the nose.”

“This year's Met Gala's guests outdid themselves. It has been many years since I have been this inspired by the red carpet look. I want to copy-and-paste several of the looks, especially those who opted for transparent dresses. Narrowing it down to my single favourite look, I must choose Phoebe Dynevor's sheer pink dream. I loved the ethereal feeling.”

“Based on this year's theme, ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’, I had expected to see more archive pieces on the red carpet, especially when sustainability is such a hot topic in the industry. This Givenchy Haute Couture autumn/winter '99 dress by Alexander McQueen, that never has been worn before, is definitely a sleeping beauty in my eyes.”

Iris Law in Versace.
“It might not be amongst the most extravagant looks of the night, but I love Iris Law in this Atelier Versace vintage gown from the brand's autumn/winter 2002 collection. It reminds me of the delicate wings of a decaying butterfly or a moth with the muted pastels contrasted with black, the mesh, and the raw edges representing the holes butterflies develop as they near death. And yes it might sound bleak, but I think it fits the ‘Garden of Time dress code perfectly, which, essentially, is about fleeting beauty, a concept that can be applied both to fashion and nature. I also love that she went for a very pared-back styling and makeup, the wet hair look the perfect finishing touch.”
