Supple leathers, daring metallics and soaring platforms, knee-baring or not, getting the boot has never been so appealing
Boots are made for strutting, stomping and making statements. And this season’s boots are show-stopping in their supple leathers and daring metallics, fabric innovations and refined silhouettes. Whether you live for stiletto boots, novel thigh-highs or sky-scraping platforms, this season really does have it all. From golden gradient leather to theatrical, Swarovski embellished boots fit for a collector, getting the boot has never been so appealing.
High and mighty
Lanvin takes the concept of high boots to a whole new level with a platform of the boldest kind. High, stacked platforms with a flared heel and rounded toe harps back to the ’80s, but don’t mistake this pair for vintage. With opulent, high-octane glamour styling is how the shoe was accompanied on Lanvin’s AW22 runway, with the thigh-high leather socks adding to the characteristic. A boot truly only for the brave, and steady of foot, style with brights for maximum impact. Although, granted all eyes will be on the shoes.
Chrome colours
Metallic boots steal the show, so pick your poison from the many styles available. Dolce & Gabbana’s knee-high version packs a considerable punch, with the embossed croc technical fabric boots, in a showstopper golden finish. The pointed toe and refined stiletto heel makes this party boot a true collector’s item. For a lower heel with just as much impact, look to Alberta Ferretti’s chrome-coloured thigh-high pair. Crafted in soft laminated nappa leather, these silver pull-on boots have a modern mod feel that we are longing to step into. For any of you hoping for more colour, opt instead for Ellie Saab’s show-stopping platform boots in a delicious green hue, undoubtedly the colour of the season.Chrome colours
Golden standard
Prada reinvents the wedge heel with their newest shape: the Modellerie. Cast in a mirrored gold and black gradient leather, these sharp knee-high boots are seasonally signature Prada and a unique style this season. With an elongated, square toe and angular 95mm block heel, the golden boot is built for both wearability and for added ‘wow’ factor. The shape is an extension to Prada’s Mary Jane version which first introduced the new silhouette.
Theatrical touch
No boots story would be complete without the mention of Vivienne Westwood. These boots by Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood x Gina are an ongoing shoe collaboration where the footwear turns into works of art. Decorated with Swarovski crystals and embroidered throughout, these truly remarkable boots come from a collection that according to Kronthaler was a tribute to the world of arts and theatre. Echoing the topic of theatrics, a mention of Marc Jacobs ‘Lili’ pumps is inevitable. The shoes that originally debuted for AW2016, worn by none other than Lady Gaga, have since grown into a trademark – something that no other 8-inch shoe has been able to top.
Second Skin
The best kind of footwear is the pair that feels almost like second skin, an additional appendage that you just slip on with ease. Max Mara’s over-the-knee boots are crafted in a stretch wool knit that is signature to the Italian house. The flat boot with a wedge heel is equipped with some technical padding, optimised for maximum comfort and designed to feel just like a sock. Schiaparelli’s patent boot is a creation from the other end of the spectrum, playing with proportions with this architectural thigh-high pair. The sharp square toes and block heels are decorated with a golden plaque, resulting in a boot that is the most relatable from the brand so far, but a look that is nevertheless unmistakably Schiaparelli.
