Alicia Vikander has gained global recognition as much for her Oscar-winning portrayal of painter Gerda Wegener in The Danish Girl as she has for her effortless style. Here's how makeup artist Georgina Graham channeled that sense of Scandinavian cool into Vikander's cover shoot look
The glossy skin draped over cheekbones so pronounced they could have been carved by Michelangelo himself. Alicia Vikander on this month's cover of Vogue Scandinavia is the epitome of Nordic nonchalance and minimalist clean lines. "I wanted to enhance Alicia’s features in a subtle, elegant way while respecting her innate sense of cool," says makeup artist Georgina Graham, who created the looks in these pictures.
From how Graham double curled Vikander's lashes, to the technique she uses for sheering out foundation, here is exactly how to create this glamorously natural makeup look.

Step 1: Gleaming skin
"I prepped Alicia's skin using face oil before massaging Susanne Kaufmann's Nutrient Serum into her skin using a gentle lymphatic drainage technique. This was followed with a moisturiser from the brand's Nourishing range to make Alicia feel relaxed and ready for the day. Applying skincare is such an important step because it's a moment for me to connect with the person in my makeup chair and to give them the best energy that I can.
"When it comes to base, I really like a real skin effect. Here I used the Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint but I also love lightweight foundations, which I often sheer out even more by using a beauty blender dipped in moisturiser. I covered any blemishes using concealer from my professional Bobbi Brown palette as well as the iconic Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat. To take away unwanted shine, I first used a tissue to blot the face after skincare, then blotted again after applying foundation and concealer before using Rae Morris Invisible Mattifier on the T-Zone."
Step 2: Balancing light and shade
"I apply light where you would naturally shine - so the tops of the cheekbones, the centre of the eye lids, the inner corners of eyes, the Cupid's Bow and the tops of the shoulders. I used a combination of Chanel Baume Essentiel for that lit-from-within glow and Charlotte Tilbury's Beauty Light Wand in Pillow Talk pressed into the highest point of Alicia’s cheekbones. Cream bronzer never looks muddy on the skin. Using a big fluffy brush, I swept Chanel Les Beiges Bronzing Cream under Alicia's cheekbones before taking it over the temples and under the jaw.
"I also like to take an eye socket brush and apply some of the product through the crease of the eye for light definition. The key with bronzer is to use a little and add more if and where needed. That way you can't go wrong. Also only ever go two shades darker than your skin tone so that you look naturally sun-kissed. I then placed a little of the Yves Saint Laurent NU Lip & Cheek Tint in Shade 3 over the tops of the cheekbones. It's the perfect nude peach for a fresh modern look."

Step 3: Metallic eyes
"On the eye lids I applied Glossier LidStar in Fawn for a soft metallic taupe and then added lots of black L'Oreal Paris Bambi Wide-Eyed Lash-Lengthening Mascara. My top tip is to double curl your lashes before applying mascara - first with an eyelash curler [Graham is a fan of the Surratt Relevee Lash Curler], and then with a bit of gentle heat from a hairdryer for extra curl. I then filled and set Alicia's brows with Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade and Brow Freeze."
Step 4: Summer lips
"Instead of lipstick I used Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Liner in Deep Taupe together with a slick of La Mer The Lip Balm, which has a gorgeous matte finish. It's the perfect low-key summer look."
