Alexander Skarsgård wore custom Calvin Klein to reunite with the men of 'Succession' at the Met Gala 2024

It's been over a decade since Skarsgård, always in a go-to sharp black tux, made his first Met Gala appearance

We at Vogue love a family reunion, however unconventional. A little shy of a year after Succession’s tremendous series finale aired, three of the show’s Emmy-winning stars – Jeremy Strong, Matthew Macfadyen, and Kieran Culkin – appeared at the 2024 Met Gala, coming quite a long way from drinking a disgusting smoothie in Lady Caroline’s kitchen and licking Lukas Matsson’s boots. (We mean that figuratively, but honestly, we wouldn’t have put it past Tom Wambsgans.)

Strong, who earned a Tony nomination last week for his leading turn in Henrik Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People, adapted for the New York stage this season by Amy Herzog and Sam Gold, appeared on the Met’s red carpet in a bespoke white suit from Loro Piana. (He was joined by his wife, Emma Wall, also in white.) Culkin – whose next project, Jesse Eisenberg’s com-dram A Real Pain, premiered to rave reviews at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival this winter – was typically charming, wearing a paint-splattered suit. (He, too, arrived with his wife, Jazz Charton, by his side, she in a citrine dress). And the ever-dapper Macfadyen, soon to be seen opposite Nicole Kidman, Gael García Bernal, and Rachel Sennott in Holland, Michigan, director Mimi Cave’s follow-up to Fresh, sported a tuxedo in rich navy velvet. (The latter was also accompanied by his wife, actor Keeley Hawes, a star of Netflix’s Scoop this spring.)

While Strong attended last year’s ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’ gala, and Culkin went in 2022 for ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion’, Macfadyen made his grand Met Gala debut this Monday. Also in attendance? One Alexander Skarsgård, in a sharp black tux, who made his first Met Gala appearance over a decade ago, way back in 2013.

If we can safely assume that the men will keep any Waystar-adjacent hijinks to a minimum inside the party proper – there will be no ‘Boar-on-the-Floor’-ing near the Temple of Dendur, the Met’s security team can rest assured – we will dare to dream of Strong channelling Kendall for a surprise rap freestyle after dinner. M to the E-T, these are my homies… you get the picture.
