The inside scoop behind Rosalía’s wardrobe for her summer wardrobe, set to visit Denmark in June

“Rosalía is a creative force. To me, she is very inspiring as a modern/contemporary artist; the way she incorporates, plays, and mixes different genres is something I respect very much,” enthuses Jonny Johansson, creative director of Acne Studios, who masterminded the musician’s wardrobe for the remainder of her world tour.

Working closely with her team, Johansson and his studio crafted a total of 128 looks, worn by Rosalía and her dancers (27 for the musician), which tapped into recent collections and the brand’s house codes, and nine pairs of custom shoes. Drawing upon aspects from spring/summer 2023 – romantic roses, satin and “undone ease” – and his most recent nature-inspired autumn/winter 2023 showcase, Johansson curated a bespoke series of looks that explored how their worlds “naturally collide”.

Rosalía wore one of the collaborative looks on the first weekend of Coachella, where she took the audience on an empowering journey through her greatest hits, complete with her signature mesmerising choreography and an appearance by her fiancé, Rauw Alejandro. For the performance, the artist perused the stage in leather trousers with ribbed motorcycle details – Johansson’s “Motomami twist” – a bustier and a sheer baby pink longline top with cascading ruffles.

True to form, she put on an equally epic show for the second weekend of the festival, in a black version of the same top and the same skin-tight high-shine trousers. For both concerts, she intermittently put on Rick Owens’s futuristic Kriester sunglasses – which were recently crowned one of the hottest products of 2023 thus far, according to Lyst.

Their partnership will continue when the artist plays 13 upcoming dates including Primavera Sound and Lollapalooza – and many more stops in between – during the summer months. “She’s such a great fit for Acne Studios as she has a unique ability to shape-shift through time, history and culture, always with a contemporary lens,” Johansson asserts, adding: “Which is what we aspire to do with the brand every day.”
