Danish-Swedish rock band Reddi represented Denmark in the 66th Eurovision Song Contest. Here, they take us behind the scenes and show us what playing in Europe's biggest song contest is truly like
Reddi is the four-piece rock band based in Copenhagen, that shook up the competition with their distinct message, 1970s look, and all-over girl-power persona in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. Made up of founder Ihan Haydar on the drums, Ida Bergkvist on the bass, Agnes Roslund on guitar, and Mathilde "Siggy" Savery on the mic.
Here, they show Vogue Scandinavia a week in their life during the Eurovision circus. From rehearsal, a spontaneous tattoo parlour visit, and playing live in front of 60 million people, Reddi is keeping the rock-n-roll wave in Euro.
Day one
"The first days in Turin were intense. There was so much to take in, and we fell in love with the city and the Eurovision bubble. We had tons of rehearsals and press during our first days in Turin. When we then had some days off we, of course, wanted to see and experience the city. We found a good street with amazing food and drinks that we would return to again and again during our stay. Here’s us getting 'Reddi' backstage at the venue."
Day two
"During one of the rehearsals, our singer Siggy lost her earring, so we asked the local people for good piercing studios. When Ida and Ihan, bassist and drummer realised that it also was a tattoo studio they got very excited. One of us decided to go for it, can you guess who?"
Day three
"Back to work. Here is Agnes, keeping her chops up on the guitar. Although Eurovision is all playback, we take every chance we can to practice. The times we had to wait in our room at the venue a lot of different exercises were discussed and shared between the four of us. Once a nerd, always a nerd. No matter if you are in school or in Eurovision."
Day four
"The first days we were a bit unlucky with the weather, it seemed we had brought the rain with us from Scandinavia. Then one day we woke up to the lovely Italian sun and we spent the mornings eating breakfast outside in between a lot of interviews. We also have to mention the coffee! It took a while for us to figure out how to get the best one, a few language mistakes were made where we would ask for a latte and (of course) just get a cup filled with milk…"
Day five
"Okay, you remember how I was talking about how we spent our breaks practicing? While that is true, we probably spent more time sleeping. A lot of sleeping constellations were made as we didn’t have beds or somewhere to lie down. This is one of them that got captured on camera. Spending the days at the venue is extremely fun, but you quickly realise you have to save your energy whenever you can. When we go on stage we need every bit of it."
Day six
"WE ARE REDDI! Here’s us with the Danish delegation. A few minutes later we would perform in front of 60 million people. How can you prepare for that? We’re still not quite sure, but we were ready for it. This has been an amazing journey for us. Still, this is just the beginning. Soon our next single will be out and we can’t wait to tour and get out and play. We hope we will see you someday."
