We've all heard the phrase ‘Less is more’, but H&M’s latest collaboration with style icon Iris Apfel has us reconsidering. This collection is the total opposite of minimalism. With a fabulous and colourful display of ‘more is more’, Apfel celebrates her centennial birthday with bombastic fashions. Iris empowers everything that is flamboyant, extravagant and bold.

The collection consists of bright colours of the rainbow, you will find emerald green, radiant violet, vivid turquoise, canary yellow, and sunset orange in the mix. The shapes are nothing less either, from the tiniest detail of pea-pod embroidery with an accompanying pearl to a voluminous frilled tulle jacket made for the maximalist.

For those faint of sartorial heart, the lineup may appear daunting. But don't you worry the collection works just as well paired with more muted styles as with the kaledioscopic offering - it is all in the styling.

The collection launches online and in select stores 31 March 2022.

Here, the Vogue Scandinavia team chooses the Iris Apfel x H&M items they loved the most:

Jacquard-weave skirt

"This season there are two words on everyone's lip 'mini skirts' - so it's only natural to gravitate to one that has Iris Apfel's tick of approval. This number will be paired with a crisp white shirt and loafers for the office, then a cropped sweater for ultimate Y2K vibes." - Eliza Sörman Nilsson

Cropped faux fur jacket

''I’ve been craving colour lately - both at home and with what I’m wearing. I know I’m not the only one obsessed with this green shade, but the fact that the jacket also looks really comfy? Yes, please.'' - Jennifer Nilsson

Esteban G Villanueva, Beauty Editor

Embellished brocade slippers

''Eliza once said that I have an underlying Versace/Italian/Summery aesthetic, and while that first caught me off guard (as I had always gone for the classic, preppy-boy in school look), maybe it's time to lean into it for the summer? That being the case, these shoes seem like a perfect over-the-top addition to this visual. Pair them either with jeans and a white button-down shirt (slightly more open than usual) or a classic dark grey suit, it's definitely a vibe.'' - Esteban G Villanueva

''I couldn’t help but think of Beyonce in her Lemonade video. I’m going to be going into the summer with the exact same vibe.'' - Mona M. Ali

Brooch

"As my fellow Vogue editor Amelie stated the other day, my personal style is all about maximalist accessories. Whether it's a Klein blue bag or a pair of silver boots, I rely on a pop of colour to elevate my otherwise muted wardrobe. This bombastic frog brooch is the perfect thing to pump up an oversized black blazer or a simple white shirt dress." - Josefin Forsberg

Amelie Langenskiöld, Fashion Assistant

Rhinestone buckle belt

''As an admirer of everything that shines, there is no doubt this belt became a favourite piece from the collection. Perhaps it's just me, but doesn't it also look like the bugs are kissing? Can't wait to highlight my waist with this belt.'' - Amelie Langenskiöld

Julia Jasper, Social Media Assistant

Jacquard-weave trousers

''I would love to suit up à la Iris in these eccentric yellow trousers, featuring possibly the most iconic print of the century.'' - Julia Jasper
